Services of Ujamaa Village

Our intentions in assisting Black people in re-developing and building sustainable Black communities; is to cover some fundamental aspects of what that will take to make it a reality. This is a work in progress and a laboratory of sorts to create a template in which to use as a model for future developments.

Eco- Literacy

As we embrace the Ujamaa Village concept we must be educated about what is green, eco or sustainable. Through various media we will teach our community about how to "be" green.

Green Industries/Trades

Learning and mastering the current and emerging green trades/industries will be fundamental in becoming the key service providers for a growing concious consumer client base for green everything. Creating institutions to do this is primary.

Cultural Enrichment

Cultural restoration and regeneration are just as importatnt as restoring an ecosystem or a habitat. This idea is found in the concept of "Sankofa" which has to do with remembering our roots. This is the cultural stamp we will put on eco villages for Black community.

Ecomonic Empowerment

The Circulation of the Black dollar is very important in sustaining the Black community to give us a better quality of life and to also raise our collective standard of living.  Through raising awareness about this and teaching financial literacy as it relates to the Black experiece; we can shift the flow of our disposable income and build a sustainable economy.

Urban Farming & Sustainable Agriculture

Our ability to feed ourselves is essential to our collective determination as a people. Re-learning about gardening, horticulture, botany, agronomy, and sustainable agriculture ; and within our heritage, will give us a strong base to build the "greenfrastructure" of Ujamaa Villages whereever we build them.

Various Lecture/Workshops

As we expand into implimenting these ideas of Ujamaa Village into predominately Black populated areas; we can add more instruction and direction of how we can regenerate a healthy Black community.Continuous learning and teaching will be a cornerstone of every Ujamaa Village development.
